Theosophical Addition
"In Numerology, all numbers above 9 are reduced to a single digit, some single digit from 1 to 9.
This begins with the next higher number, 10, which, by adding its component parts, 1 + 0 = 1. Gurdjieff referred to numerology as theosophical addition, that is, 'the definition of numbers consisting of two or more digits by the sum of those digits.'
'To people who do not understand the symbolism of numbers, this method of synthesizing numbers seems to be absolutely arbitrary and to lead nowhere.
But for a person who understands the unity of everything existing and who has the key to this unity the method of theosophical addition has a profound meaning,
for it resolves all diversity into fundamental laws which govern it."

Examples
36 = 3 + 6 = 9
72 = 7 + 2 = 9
2006 = 2 + 0 + 0 + 6 = 8
1969 = 1 + 9 + 6 + 9 = 25 = 2 + 5 = 7
The 9 = 0
In numbers that contain 9, the 9 or any numbers that add up to 9 such as 1 and 8, can be dropped to 0.
1956 = 1 + 9 + 5 + 6 = 21 = 2 + 1 = 3
= 1 + 0 + 5 + 6 = 12 = 1 + 2 = 3
1878 = 1 + 8 + 7 + 8 = 24 = 2 + 4 = 6
= 0 + 7 + 8 = 15 = 1 + 5 = 6 ( the 1 and 8 add up to 9 and can be canceled to Zero)
